Existing site with 300 videos to change to JVD? 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi guys, Love the way it looks but have a few questions. I have a current site hosting my own videos.: www.RPMTVOnline.com

1. Will the transfer of content to your component require hand feeding of each asset or is current file path ok to use?
( so far Im having trouble even figuring out how to load 1 video)

2. I hope to keep my current site pretty much as is and have a new Videos " sub section" or page for all video based content. I guess the question is... can I insert JVD into an article or will it be a category etc?

3. My current work flow sucks!! I use Seyret for cataloging and the embed download ability, And YouJoomla players for their very cool players with playlist embedded so that each video dosent bring up a new page when selected. That means each videos filepath has to be inserted twice!... No Bueno.

I just want to FTP videos to a channel directory, open that channel list and click publish ( or something close).

4. optional players, Im not excited with JW player... what other players do you think you will make compatible in the future?

Please have a look at my site and make suggestions.

Thanks Guys,

Nava

1. what is your current video component?

To upload, either from batch upload in admin or create upload menu link.

2. jvd is a big component, however, you don't need to assign is as HOME, you can assign it as other menu link.

3. Does it mean you just wants to show your own videos and other users are not allowed to upload?

4. any player can be plugin to jvd, why don't you let us know which player you like and we examine it.

Thank you for the response.

1. what is your current video component?
Seyret as a means of using embed upon request from my customers

To upload, either from batch upload in admin or create upload menu link.
Normally I ftp my videos to a folder such as: Seyretfiles/SRL or Seuyret files/nascar... etc.

2. jvd is a big component, however, you don't need to assign is as HOME, you can assign it as other menu link.

3. Does it mean you just wants to show your own videos and other users are not allowed to upload?
Correct,I may allow user uploads but currently am not pursuing it.

4. any player can be plugin to jvd, why don't you let us know which player you like and we examine it.
I use two currently: Youjoomla and Joomlaxtc video show... Im glad to upload for you to see... just tell me where.

Did you have a look at the current site?

Heres a player

YJMS2

Not sure if this is a full commercial player. Please don't attach commercial software here as we don't want to distribute it in this forum

Now that i have the time to sit down and check out your site.

unknown items
1. are you using a dedicated server or media hosting?
2. is ffmpeg(with libx264), mencoder(with x264), flvtool2 in place? x264 library required only for HD/HQ conversion
With the assumption that all backend is ready.

Do you allow users to upload videos?
you need a menu link either in user menu or main menu.
at least "upload" and "userpanel" for users.
"user panel" is for users to manage videos and channels.

whenever a user first upload a video, a default channel will be created.
the user can create more channels in userpanel.

In your case, to start with, you can login as admin and create multiple channels. However, all channels will be tide up with admin. Just like our demo site.

Version 0.2 will need the backend to be ready in order to build video site.

for next version, we will throw in flexibility for an embed only site.
Should be release by end of next week.

OK... Heres you answers:

1. Shared Server. Works fine and streams great.

2. I have hardware encoders. So no encoding is even needed. All my videos are encoded then uploaded.

3. I may allow user uploads in the future but not now. so this is not needed.

What I really am looking for is:

1. A component to manage video's on local server ( point to video channel folder ) and allow embed and viral on front end. (after videos have been pre-encoded and uploaded to server)

2. Gallery or channel management and display.

To be honest I have Seyret... I love the backend administration and set up. Very easy and fast to use. What I dont like is the way it looks and feels... and lack of several elementary options which JVD employs.

I was hoping that JVD would allow me the ease of use in the backend and a better visual flow for the end users.

As stated I have alot of videos, so when I do test this, I need to really be able to work with all aspects quickly and easily. The biggest problem I have now with your comp is..... Can I point to existing videos on current server without the need for batch uploads and conversions?

I'm more concerned with manageability than anything else.

Thanks
