I have Jvideodirect installed and converting, but the thumbnail generation is failing. In the "videos" section of the Administrator, status reads "image generation failed"

The videos play fine. I searched the forum but did not see this issue.
Is this a configuration?

image is generated from the highest quality video converted.
If you have set HD and HD conversion is failed, you get this message.
(likely your h264 codec is not installed properly)
Try SD only, you won't get this message.

best way is to test it using "tester" tool

The video that I uploaded is not HD and I do have the converter set to use HD and SD.
Does this mean that it tries to make an HD version of the video in every case?

The tester tool does not give any errors, and generates thumbnails. However there is no HD "test" video in the tester folder, so I have not seen an HD conversion.
I am hosting this with Rochen and they set up the converter for us.

I will have them look into the h264 codec issue. Is there anything else in the set up that they should look at?

i mean if you can play with the parameter at converter -> available quality ...

I have had the administrator rebuild the configuration and I have tried to upload this video

It's a microsoft HD sample that is 1280 x 720 720p and it is roughly 15mb.
The uploader seems to grab it and do some processing (attached is a screen shot), it takes a few moments, I watch the progress bar to 100% and then nothing happens.
I have my framewidth size in the conversion parameters set to 1280px.

It does not show up in the administrator at all.

have you try the other 2 methods?

I tried "smart mode" and got the same thing. Should I try to upload an HD file
in "HQ only"? We need both formats.
